The Soft Arkansas stone mounted on the wood block is the same quality stone as the one offered in the wood boxes. The difference is this stone is permanently glued to a wood base.
The result is the same quality sharpening stone at a lower price. The savings is in the cost of lapping the second side of the stone and making the box.
Soft Arkansas stones usually have a marbled look with colors varying from white, gray, black, orange or purple.
